Magazine Features - AIS finds Project RA

It took the two Impreza-mad
Pauls at Auto Import Solutions (AIS) just a few days to find my new project car.
Top stuff lads.

Featured in Japanese Performance Magazine. (July 2005 - Issue 54)

So the decision was made – to do another Impreza project car.

Living up to its apt name, Auto Import Solutions (AIS) has been marvellous to deal with right from the start, being efficient, polite, fun, knowledgeable, calm, patient and now, becoming good friends, too.

I met the two Pauls at AIS after TOTB3, when we went up to Lancashire to feature their superbly modified STi RA V-limited in issue 49.

The two Pauls found my standard STi RA, along with a Cusco modified one they fancied, at one of their favourite auction houses.

And, within only a week or so of putting in my order at AIS, my Impreza WRX STi RA Version II project car was inspected, bid on, bought, driven to the docks and, as luck would have it, loaded on the ship that very same week. I told you they were efficient.

Six weeks and 6000 miles later, my RA was at the docks in Liverpool. Then, following clearance from the shipping company, it was towed up to AIS for its registration and preparation for use on UK roads.
Back at AIS mission control, the RA got a clean-up, check-over and digital pictures were then taken and sent over to me for final approval. I was well happy, so it was then just a question of prepping the car for UK roads, passing the SVA (single vehicle approval) test, and MoT and some tax to pay.

The RA was just about to celebrate its 10th birthday, meaning it no longer required an SVA test. All it needed, therefore, was an MoT, fog light fitting, speedo conversion, fuel neck restrictor and registering for UK road tax. Then it would be ready to roll.

So the two Pauls, with help from their spanner man, Sam, soon got that sorted following the RA’s 10 year birthday party. And now, the new Japanese Performance project car can finally get started…

Thanks

A big thankyou to all the people who gave advice, or who helped me try to find a project car.

But the biggest thanks of all has to go to the two Pauls at Auto Import Solutions for actually getting it here and on the road. Nice work lads.
